Surgical-Dental Program
The Surgical-Dental Program is a component of the Medical Care Plan (MCP) which covers specific dental procedures of a surgical nature performed in hospital. Specific services provided by certified oral surgeons in a private practice setting are also covered.

Generally, the services insured under the Surgical-Dental Program comprise:

routine investigation and preparation of the patient in hospital (including examinations, consultations, and x-rays)
operative procedures, including anaesthetics
total post-operative care

Claims for insured services performed must be in accordance with the MCP Surgical-Dental Payment Schedule.

Unlike the Dental Health Plan, there is no co-pay fee applicable to Surgical-Dental procedures. However, dentists or oral surgeons who do not participate in the Program may extra-bill patients. MCP will only pay the amount that would have been payable had the dentist or oral surgeon been opted-in and the patient will be responsible for the difference.

Surgical Dental procedures that are insured in Newfoundland and Labrador are payable outside the province, up to the rate of the ‘host' province. Procedures are payable outside Canada at MCP rates.
