Goals
Our long term goals guide all branch level activities and progress against each is measured through outcome achievements. These goals are:
  To advance responsible mineral and energy exploration activities.
  To maintain and/or enhance responsible mineral and energy resource development.
  To ensure that mineral and energy resource activities are managed in the best interests of the province.
  To be recognized as a leader in creating and following best practices in resource assessment, development and management.

Mandate
Our mandate is established under Department of Mines and Energy Notice of the Executive Council Act, which states that the Minister is responsible for the supervision, control and direction of all matters relating to: mines, minerals, quarries, quarry materials and beaches; petroleum resources, including offshore petroleum resources; royalties and associated matters, within or outside the province; energy, including all electrical power; and the development, monitoring, supervision, assistance or other government intervention into any of the industries described.

Mission Statement
Mines & Energy promotes and facilitates the sustainable development of the province's mineral and energy resources through its resource assessment, management and development activities for the overall benefit of the citizens of Newfoundland and Labrador.
