A number of in-house databases are available for
searching at our offices or by telephone consultation with a database
geologist. These databases include an in-house version of the Geofiles
database and also the Drillhole Database and the Mineral Lands
Information Database. These three databases contain metadata for the
Geofiles collection. There are two other in-house databases described
below; these contain metadata for two other collections, the library
and the image collections.

This database contains descriptions of about 90% of the documents in
the Geofiles, an in-house collection of over 11,000 geoscientific
documents pertaining to Newfoundland and Labrador and immediate
offshore regions. These documents include mineral exploration assessment
reports, published reports and maps, open-file reports and maps,
university theses, books and book excerpts, and unpublished reports and
maps, including speeches and sketch maps. The descriptions or records
for the documents may be searched by bibliographic, geographic,
geological terms and mineral exploration terms.

This database contains drillhole information from non-confidential
reports in the Geofiles collection. The information is specific to an
individual drillhole, e.g., length of hole. Not all information fields
are completed for all records. The information supplements the
information in the Geofiles Database. It was last updated December,
1994, however coding sheets are up-to-date.

This database contains limited information from mineral exploration
assessment reports that is specific to a licence, fee simple grant,
concession, or other Mineral Rights title name and number. Since
September 1998, the Geological Survey Geofile number for any new
mineral assessment reports (pertaining to licence property) has been
added to the Mineral Lands Division, Mineral Rights Database. Only
records for those other property types (e.g., fee simple grants, Reid
lots, charters, quarry, MEL) not currently in the Mineral Rights Database,
are now being added to the MINLAND database.

This database contains descriptions of documents in the Geological Survey
technical library. The library contains mainly geoscientific documents
referring to areas other than this Province and includes bound
publications and maps by the Geological Survey of Canada and by other
provincial, federal and international surveys. It includes current and
back issues for journals, technical books and reference material. The
database provides access to these documents by bibliographic terms,
e.g., author and words in the title.
SIZE: 13.4 mb Number of Cases: 10,689

This database contains descriptions of images whether these images
appear on slides, photos, negatives and videos. Begun in 1998 the
database now has description for over 50 percent of the current
collection.
