  • more than 8,000 ft2 of on-site storage and processing space

  • 2,798 ft2 of storage space, no processing space in Colonial Building
  • 4,630 ft.2 Reference Room with capacity for 80 clients; separate audio-visual room; hard-wired for on-line searching

  • 1,500 ft.2 Reference Room (space for 40 clients); microfilm readers in main Room; no on-line searching capacity

  • temperature and humidity controls and monitoring, including specialized storage area for photographic collection
  • no environmental controls; collections subject to fluctuating temperature and humidity on a daily basis
  • fire protection and advanced security systems
  • basic fire protection and security systems
  • isolation and conservation facilities to handle problem collections
  • no isolation area in which to assess recent acquisitions without potential contamination of existing holdings
  • fully equipped darkroom and computer lab facilities
  • no darkroom facilities; all photographs and other records must be taken off-site for photographic reproduction
  • increased programming capacity provided by access to classrooms, multi-media auditorium, and specially designed exhibit gallery
