Background Information
Staff are available in the Main Reference Room at the Colonial Building,
to discuss research topics, point out possible archival sources,
give instruction in the use of finding aids, and provide information
on any of the services offered by the institution. Staff members
receive requests for records and arrange retrievals.
- Prior notice is requested from persons undertaking major research
projects to ensure the availability of an archivist for consultation
and to allow retrieval of records in off-site storage.
- Access to original material is only allowed under strict
handling regulations.
- Self-service copying of archival materials is not permitted.
- Copying services are dependent upon the condition of the records.
- Written requests for copying must be made at the reference
desk. Please see staff for further details, or visit the Copying
and Reproduction Services section.
- PANL holds an extensive collection of copies of baptism, marriage
and burial records from parishes throughout Newfoundland and
Labrador. This collection is in great demand from genealogy
researchers. As a result, a package of genealogical information
has been developed for researchers and is available by contacting
PANL by phone, mail or email.
