  1. Can the Appeal Board change my salary on the pay scale, i.e. from Step 1 to Step II? Can the Board assign a new salary scale to a class?

1. Can the Appeal Board change my salary on the pay scale, i.e. from Step 1 to Step II? Can the Board assign a new salary scale to a class?

No, this is outside the Board's jurisdiction.


2. Can the Board create a new class?

No, the Board can only place an individual into a class that currently exists in the classification system.


3. Is a hearing required in order to render a decision?

The Board can render a decision without a hearing taking place, based on written documentation.


4. Can the Board move a position from the bargaining unit to the management pay plan?

No, this is outside the Board's jurisdiction.


5. Does the Board have jurisdiction to place a position outside the existing collective agreement, i.e. from Clerk I, HS 11 to Clerk I, GS 11?

No, this is outside the Board's jurisdiction.


6. If I appeal my classification, do I have to appear before the Board?

Not necessarily. If a hearing is required, you may have a representative appear on your behalf.


7. If the Appeal Board changes my classification, what will be the effective date of change?

The effective date will be the date the review was received by the Classification & Compensation Division of Treasury Board.
