The Public Service Commission (PSC) of Newfoundland and Labrador will be hosting a series of Career Expos during the month of April, 2008. As part of its overall business plan, the Commission had conceptualized such an event as a means to promote employment opportunities in the public service. The Career Expos highlight the Provincial Public Service as a preferred employer and also supports government’s long-term strategic human resources planning initiatives.

Purpose of the Career Expo
The intent of the Career Expos are to highlight the Provincial Public Service as a potential employer by profiling:

• Provincial Government Departments and Agencies;

• Current employment opportunities - external competitions active as during the month of April;

• Emerging employment opportunities - profiles of occupations anticipated to be recruited in this and future years;

• Employment initiatives such as the Opening Doors Program and the Diversity Strategy.

The Career Expos will be held on the following dates in the locations noted:

• Tuesday, April 1, Corner Brook 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. Greenwood Inn

• Thursday, April 3, St. John’s 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. The Delta Hotel

• Wednesday, April 9, Grand Falls-Windsor 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. Mt. Peyton Hotel

• Wednesday, April 30, Happy Valley-Goose Bay 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. Hotel North

Recruitment Process
All recruitment initiatives pertaining to the staffing of Provincial Public Service positions will be in accordance with the Public Service Commission Act and the merit principle.

Provincial Public Service will continue to be proactive in promoting available positions by way of the Career Expos. Visitors to the Career Expos will be given access to information on current and future job opportunities.

Normal procedures will continue to apply for redeployment and internal recruitments. Provincial Public Service positions not filled via the Job Clearing Centre or by internal competition will continue to be advertised in the public media outlets.
