The Respectful Workplace Program (RWP) was developed to provide individuals, work teams and Departments with healthy options to address the issue of workplace conflict. More and more research is providing evidence that unresolved conflict is a major stress for many employees, and can be a barrier to productivity. Health Canada in fact has determined that ensuring a harassment free environment and providing effective mechanisms for resolving conflicts are essential to creating a healthy workplace.

Understanding your choices to deal with the issues of conflict impacting you in the workplace is a positive first step. We know that conflict is a natural occurrence when people work together, and it can be a healthy process that enables work groups to problem solve and reach a consensus. We also know that conflicts which do not get resolved, can often cause situations which are very negative and stressful for everyone involved. When dealing with a difficult workplace conflict understanding the choices and services available to help you, is the first step to resolving the conflict and its associated stress.

The Respectful Workplace Program can help. It is a confidential choice available to all employees of provincial government departments. Sometimes we can resolve conflict on our own by finding a different way to approach the problem. Sometimes we may need help.

Are you in a conflict situation that is causing you stress? Do you need some advice on managing a conflict in your workplace? A confidential conversation with the Respectful Workplace Coordinator can help you figure out your options and the best approach for you.

Services offered within the Respectful Workplace Program:

  • Confidential coaching and consultation on specific conflict situations
  • Mediation, facilitation and other problem solving supports
  • Workplace assistance when conflict affects the entire group
  • Training and information in conflict management and building a respectful workplace environment
  • Other forms of informal conflict resolution
