Respectful Workplace Program

Services

Generally, issues of disrespect, conflict and harassment can often be addressed by speaking directly to the other party or with the assistance of your supervisor. However, contacting the Respectful Workplace Program (RWP) coordinator can also be an appropriate first step in such incidents. It has the advantage over other options of being the most confidential. By involving the Respectful Workplace Program, the individual has control over the process including whether to proceed with Conflict Resolution Options or simply to seek the confidential advice of the coordinator. Assistance through the Respectful Workplace Program may be in the form of: personal support, problem solving, help with assertiveness skills, or a discussion about the conflict resolution choices available to the individual. Any further action would occur only with the approval of the individual requesting assistance.

Conflict Resolution services provided under the RWP include:

Consultations
Government Employees can access confidential support and guidance on how to constructively respond to situations of conflict and/or explore available avenues of recourse

Conflict Coaching
Government Employees
can access confidential coaching with an experienced trainer. Coaching may involve one or more sessions. The employee is encouraged to build on their skills to constructively respond to situations of conflict and/or explore available avenues of recourse

Mediations and Multiparty Mediation
The mediation process is conducted by a trained and impartial mediator who assists two or more parties to reach a resolution to their differences in a respectful manner. This requires initial separate meetings between the mediator and each of the parties involved. If appropriate, a mediation will be scheduled.

Facilitated Discussion
The process is conducted by a trained and impartial mediator who assists two or more parties to reach a resolution to their differences in a respectful manner. This requires initial meetings with the team leader and work group to establish expected outcomes. If appropriate, a facilitated discussion will be scheduled.

Facilitations
Work groups can access impartial facilitation services for meetings and other problem solving sessions which might benefit from such a process. The focus of such sessions is on building interpersonal relationships rather than resolving labor relations disputes.

Tailored Training
Workgroups can receive a range of training services from our division which can include short presentations, awareness sessions, team building workshops and skills training.

Harassment related services
Where deemed appropriate by the department and of interest to the parties involved in the situation, individuals and managers can receive any of the above mentioned supports as an alternative to Harassment Investigations as referenced in Public Service Secretariats revised Harassment and Discrimination Free Policy.

Capacity Building
The RWP coordinator will collaboratively work with groups to develop RWP Initiatives within Government Departments. The goal is to enhance the capacity of work groups to create a more respectful work environment. This includes RWP committee development, provision of capacity building tools, skills and knowledge to help create a healthy safe and respectful work environment.
